Kathmandu

After coming down from the amazing trek to Mt. Everest, we looked forward to warmer temperatures and some R&R! We crossed the border into Nepal and said goodbye to our guides. Once inside the border, chaos ensued as the area had suffered a landslide in early August and the road to Kathmandu was blocked.

We secured a ride to the landslide and then had to hire sherpas and hike across the slide!

And they are off - hard to keep up with.
The landslide was huge and the taxis were taking advantage by charging twice the going price to get to Kathmandu. Sherpas were making multiple trips a day and making very little but doing all of the work. Very different from our experiences with the Tibetans.

After a harrowing jeep ride into Kathmandu, we immediately hit the streets to check out the crazy scene!

The temples here have a different look - Hinduism is more prevalent in Nepal. Most of these temples were built in the 1600's and were connected by courtyards. Only a few were open and we found them to be very rustic inside compared to the temples in Tibet.

I heard about a local shop that sells Healing Bowls made from four generations of the same family and found the little workshop. We were given a lesson on how the bowls were made and got to listen to their beautiful vibrations. Such a treasure to remind us of our trip to Kathmandu.

Kathmandu was a hustling, bustling city with lots of fun restaurants and a great place to recover! Very Bohemian and friendly. But now it is time to head back to Shanghai!

We loved Tibet and Nepal and hope to return some day!

Love,

Kathy & Phil
