Apartment with a View

Our 13th floor apartment is beginning to feel a bit more like home and is definitely a reprieve from the city just outside our door. The car horns start at about 5:00am and quiet at about midnight. The apartment balcony overlooks the Sciences & Technology building, Century Park (much like Central Park) and the downtown Pudong section of Shanghai, full of skyscrapers of all shapes and sizes.

The canal we watch daily, is always muddy and doesn't look very clean. Even though they have been discouraged from doing so, swimmers get their exercise by tying orange balloon floats to their backs so they can be seen as they do the breast stroke up and down the waterway. There is a section just opposite our apartment that features our favorite canine swimmers. At 6:30 each morning, there are between 3 to 6 retrievers that come to swim and fetch orange floats thrown in the water by their owners. A great way to start the day!
